Movie: No Limit Debuts on DVD

June 15, 2007 · 1 Comment

“Susan and Tim are ex-fiancés who have a four year old child. At wit’s end, they decide to enter a series of poker tournaments in hopes of winning enough money to avoid declaring bankruptcy because of their struggling company’s dire financial problems. Are they American Dreamers or Delusional Gamblers? The answer depends on the perspective, as evidenced by “No Limit”, an out of the ordinary, entertaining and emotional inside-look at the high-stakes world of professional poker playing. Passion River will release “No Limit” on DVD July 24th, with a pre-book release date of June 26, 2007.

“No Limit” takes a revealing glimpse into an eight-month journey down the poker tournament trail, culminating at the biggest event of them all, Las Vegas’ World Series of Poker. There are many highs, lows, and in-betweens along the way that all too often spell disaster for these two and their child, but all they really need to do is win just one tournament to make all the heartache worthwhile.”

News: Hollywood’s Van Patten links athletics with poker

June 10, 2007 · Leave a Comment

“Maybe you saw Matt Damon play poker in the 1998 movie Rounders or Brad Pitt teach poker in the 2001 movie Ocean’s Eleven. This year, WSOP bracelet winner Robert Williamson III was among the poker pros to appear in the movie Lucky You while Damon and Pitt are scheduled to play in Don Cheadle’s “Ante Up For Africa” charity poker tournament on July 5 in Las Vegas.

“We’re an entertainment industry,” Williamson says.

Talk about role reversals.

Fictional 007 agent James Bond always played baccarat in casinos, but in the 2006 remake of Casino Royale he gets involved in a high stakes game of Texas Hold’em, the game of the WSOP’s main event.

“That’s a very big statement about where we are,” says WSOP commissioner Jeffrey Pollack. “We loved that movie.”

Movie: Lucky You Set to Open Nationwide

May 3, 2007 · Leave a Comment

“The new film, Lucky You, is set to open across the country May 4th. Warner Brothers claims that it is “the first Hollywood film to capture the excitement and drama of the recent worldwide poker phenomenon.” In actuality, several films have tried to capitalize on the success of poker but have failed to become commercial hits.

Lucky You is directed by Curtis Hanson (8 Mile & LA Confidential) and stars Eric Bana, Robert Duvall and Drew Barrymore. The drama in the story seems to take place off the felt as Bana’s poker playing character falls in love with a Vegas singer (Barrymore) and struggles to emotionally deal with his poker legend father (Duvall). Don’t let that plotline fool you though, there also seems to be plenty of action on the felt as well.”
