Technology: Social Networking + Poker = K9Poker.com

August 13, 2007 · Leave a Comment

“Social networking is the new hot web concept. Mainstream successes like MySpace and Facebook have brought on a deluge of social networking sites based around a simple idea: Get people together, and people with similar interests will find each other and create something cool.

I’ve long thought that poker was ripe for such a site. Poker networking can help you schedule home games, coordinate trips to Vegas, find people to talk about hands with, and more. You can show off your tournament successes on your profile page, post photos of yourself or friends, or tell bad beat stories on your blog. Poker and social networking are both hot, so they seem like a good match.”

Online: New breed of poker star on the Internet

July 16, 2007 · Leave a Comment

“The future of poker isn’t hunkered down in a smoky card room in the back of roadside tavern. It’s not wearing a weathered face, chewing on a cigar and glaring lightning bolts from beneath a 10 gallon hat.

The future of poker is fresh-faced and fast-paced. It’s intelligent and cocky and ultra-aggressive. And it’s likely sitting in front of a computer right now, trying to take all your money.

News: Buzz fading, but poker still going strong

July 6, 2007 · Leave a Comment

“Back in 2003, the World Series of Poker main event started a frenzy that not only catapulted poker into the mainstream, but elevated it to the level of “sport.”

Just four years later, on the eve of the 2007 main event, it certainly seems as if mixed martial arts has supplanted poker as the niche sport du jour.

So if UFC is the new poker … where does that leave the old poker?

Technology: Electronic Heads-Up Poker Invading Bars Everywhere

July 3, 2007 · Leave a Comment

“Coming soon to a bar near you: Electronic poker tables.

PokerTek, the company behind the PokerPro electronic poker tables, has announced it will distribute the heads-up version of its electronic poker tables to bars everywhere. And to add to its mainstream appeal, the machine is officially called the Heads-Up Challenge World Series of Poker Edition, and will be branded with WSOP logos thanks to a licensing agreement it signed with Harrah’s earlier this year.

A distribution network to get the machine in bars around the country is in place. Earlier this month, PokerTek signed a domestic distribution agreement with nine companies that specialize in distributing amusement games.”
