“CBS officially announced the cast of Survivor: China, yesterday and professional poker player Jean-Roberts Bellande was on the list.

There were rumors Bellande would star in the reality television show, which has contestants duke it out for more than 30 days in a remote location, for months but this is the first official confirmation.

The Hollywood resident has already “outwitted, outplayed and outlasted” countless poker players but this will be his first venture into reality TV.

Bellande said in an interview on www.cbs.com that he wasn’t exactly thrilled about the idea of being on Survivor from the beginning.”

“I would not have proposed this several years ago …,” she wrote. “The reason I have changed my mind about pursing this avenue is that poker has become mainstream through the televised games of the World Poker Tour (WPT) – which is based in Culver City and should be lured away to set up shop in Long Beach.”

Casinos, she said, could bring Long Beach much-needed revenue for public services and infrastructure.

Schipske lists possible options, including card clubs, where poker and other card games are legal throughout California, or Indian casinos similar to Las Vegas-style gambling, which have certain legal restrictions.”

But who’s to say that’s not in the cards.

The network that since 1988 has given credibility and visibility to the pursuit of a royal flush as a sports-slash-entertainment spectacle launches a new round of WSOP Main Event shows Tuesday, starting with back-to-back hour-long episodes at (5 and 6 p.m., followed by dozens of repeats for the next eight weeks.

It doesn’t matter that a month ago, Temecula’s Jerry Yang won the $8.25 million final table in a 14-hour event that was shown live on pay-per-view. Channel surfers will invariably lock in on this stuff as if it’s a “Seinfeld” re-run, even decades later as it ferments over on ESPN Classic.

What’s now? Poker. Same as what was then.”

The Venetian poker room will host two of the league’s five events this year including its world championship event, a three-day, $15,000 buy-in no-limit Texas hold ‘em tournament scheduled for Dec. 3-5.

Just before the championship tournament, the Venetian will host the 2007 Vegas Open from Nov. 24 to Dec. 2. The Vegas Open includes four preliminary no-limit hold ‘em tournaments with $2,500 buy-ins and culminates with a $5,000 buy-in no-limit hold ‘em tournament.”
