Player: Blind Poker Player Being Featured on ESPN (Las Vegas, NV)

“It was only about three years ago when Hal Lubarsky’s failing eyesight made it impossible for him to play poker. Thanks to a disease called retinitis pigmentosa, the darkness slowly closed onto the center of his eye, and it led him to a point he knew was coming – his eyesight had been deteriorating basically since he was born. He would soon be blind, and one day Lubarsky said to himself that he couldn’t play poker anymore, something he’d done since he was a boy in Brooklyn. It was a sad day among sad days when he decided to give it up.

Hal Lubarsky ESPN’s broadcast of the World Series of Poker has always featured several players who stand out, whether it’s for the clothes they wear, how they smell, or the fact that they don’t have any arms. This year, American poker fans are going to be introduced to Lubarsky, who had the best summer of his life after finding a way into the WSOP main event. But because Lubarsky and his seeing-eye card reader – Jason Williams, a man who used to serve Lubarsky drinks – stuck around until 197th place, cashing in the main event for $51,000, he will likely be featured more than others this year.”

  1. I think it is great that he is finaly going to beable to play. It is on fair that the People who are are Blind can enjoy the same game as ev1 else. We all have been signaled out by the Casino’s and the WSOP, WPT all because we can not see!
Would 1 more person at the table hurt everyone?, NO, it would be the same as some in a large Wheel Chair that they have to Allow at the Tables. We ask only for the Same rights as other that permitted play no matter they Haddicapp. I myself have have been told I could play the Slot machines (Poker Slots) in Casino’s, but I would not be allowed at the Tables if someone had to assist me! That should be pruely down right agaist the law. After all, are the Casino’s not suppose to make everything Hadicapped Availible? So Why not the WSOP and WPT as well! Also remember, tomorrow is another day, you could wake up, have and accident or anything the next day, and end as Blind as us! Good bye to your Poker and most of the Friends that you had doing soming that you enjoyed! Think about it! Walk in our Shoes for Just 1 day then ask if it is right that we are not allowed to play the same game that everyone else around us enjoys. Oh yes, by the way, I’m Blind person who is a part owner of a wonderful Poker Site.

    Thank you
    Tea
